Engineering & Environmental Services

The City's Engineering and Environmental Services Department is responsible for delivering projects that comprise the City's robust Capital Improvement Program, review of private development projects, and stewardship of the environmental needs of the community. The Department encompasses civil and traffic engineering, environmental services, public right-of-way encroachment, transportation planning, and design and construction of capital improvements and other City projects. The dedicated team ensures that the City's infrastructure remains efficient, and capable of supporting community needs.

Jeremy Hohnbaum, City Engineer, Engineering and Environmental Services Director

Jeremy Hohnbaum brings over 20 years of diverse engineering experience to the role. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from California State University, Fullerton and later completed a Master’s degree in Public Administration from California State University, Long Beach.

His career began in the private sector, where he spent over 15 years as a consulting engineer with a focus on land development, flood control, water quality, and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects. In 2019, he transitioned into the public sector, joining the City of San Juan Capistrano as a Senior Civil Engineer. He later served as Principal Engineer for the City of Laguna Niguel, before returning to San Juan Capistrano to lead the Engineering and Environmental Services Department.

In his role as Director, Jeremy Hohnbaum is dedicated to advancing the City’s infrastructure goals, overseeing capital improvement projects (CIPs), and supporting initiatives that enhance sustainability, water quality, mobility, and community resilience. His leadership blends technical expertise with a strong commitment to public service, ensuring the City continues to deliver high-quality infrastructure and environmental stewardship for its residents and businesses.
