Public Works & Community Services

The Public Works and Community Services Department is responsible for maintaining the community's public spaces and recreational facilities to the highest standards, as well as the development and delivery of community enrichment programs and special events.

The Department oversees public and group use of City facilities including the Community Center, City Gymnasium, Sports Park, athletic fields, Historic Town Center Park, Los Rios Park, the Community Garden, La Sala Auditorium and Courtyard, North West Open Space, and Reata Park and Event Center. Programs and services are available for pre-school age children to seniors. Additionally, the Department coordinates community-wide events such as the 4th of July Celebration, San Juan Summer Nites concert series, Spring Eggstravaganza, and the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, in addition to assisting in the annual Fiesta de Las Golondrinas Swallows Day Parade.

The Department provides direct staff support to the City’s Parks, Equestrian and Community Services Commission, and Youth Advisory Board community group, and works in partnership with local organizations.
