Overview
The next General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, for the election of three (3) City Council Members, each for a four-year term, one from District 2, one from District 3 and one from District 4.
Process to Run for City Council Seat
To qualify for candidacy, the potential candidate must be a registered voter and a resident of either District 2, District 3 or District 4 at the time of obtaining nomination papers. Please visit our interactive District Map to confirm your district and to view all the districts and boundaries. The nomination period for interested candidates will begin mid-July 2026.
Once the nomination period is open, interested candidates are required to make an appointment with the City Clerk’s Office to obtain nomination papers. During the appointment, the City Clerk will provide a Candidate Handbook, review the election/nomination process and issue nomination papers. Part of the nomination requires for a candidate to collect a minimum number of signatures from registered voters within the district the candidate resides. Since election and campaign finance regulations can change from one election to another, we do not have the 2026 Candidate Handbook available at this time. For reference, please download the 2024 Candidate Handbook.
